Escudo I Hanoverian Stallion of the Year 2009
A Champion in the Course

Celle State Stud stallion Escudo I by Espri/Arkansas is the Hanoverian Stallion of the Year 2009. On behalf of the deceased breeder Allmer Knoop, Arno and Sabine Knoop were awarded a fairly remunerative cheque and the Wohlklang-statuette. Every year, the Hanoverian Society and R+V/VTV insurance company honour important stud stallions with this award.

The pleasing black stallion with the keen eye was born on Allmer Knoop’s farm on May 23, 1991. Heinz Katt from Bremervoerde raised Escudo I and presented him at the Stallion Licensing in Verden in 1993 where he already displayed his talent. He accomplished the jumps like a rubber ball and was one of the Lot I-stallions that moved to the Celle State Stud. One year later, he was the celebrated Champion at the Stallion Performance Test in Adelheidsdorf. He outpaced the competition with a final show jumping score of 144.9 points and was honoured with the Freiherr von Stenglin-Prize as best stallion of his age group. Since that time, he is registered with the Hanoverian Jumper Breeding Program.

Farmer Allmer Knoop purchased Escudo’s dam, State Premium mare Athene by Arkansas/Woermann, at the age of two. She derives from the damline of Notrada that originated in 1899 on the breeding site of the Battelmann-family in Nesse. The bay mare with the captivating type was very successful at shows, among them at the Louis Wiegels-Show. Escudo’s one year younger full brother Escudo II was the extraordinary winner at the Stallion Licensing in 1994. The one year elder Erik (Florian Meyer zu Hartum) won Advanced Level jumper classes. Following the death of the breeder, son Arno and daughter-in-law Sabine continued the breeding business. State Premium mare Erle by Espri and her daughter Cordy by Contendro are still active broodmares.

Apart from his breeding career, Escudo I was also a successful competition horse. He won the Hanoverian Show Jumping Championships on Dobrock under Joachim Winter in 1996, and he became Vice Bundeschampion in Warendorf, followed by various successes up to Advanced Level. Escudo I passes on his incredible show jumping scope and brilliant type to his offspring. His sons Enorm (Ludger Beerbaum) and Escobar (Thomas Weinberg) are as successful at international level as El Paso (Jessica Kuerten, Markus Beerbaum), the Bundeschampion of five-year-old show jumping horses in 2003. Escudo I has been one of the best German stallions on the breed value rankings for years. His offspring in show jumping sport contribute to his currently excellent breed value of 151 points, his daughters and sons in the Hanoverian breed value estimation to a mark of 147 points for show jumping and 145 for riding horse points and type. 306 Escudo I daughters are registered with the Hanoverian Society, 83 of them were awarded State Premium mare. 89 foals and 67 riding horses were sold at the Verden auctions. 15 of his 25 licensed sons are currently registered with the Hanoverian Stallion Book I. The Celle state stud stallions Earl and El Bundy won their stallion performance tests, just like their sire, ad Embassy is one of the most popular Hanoverian show jumping stallions.

Escudo I continues the old Hanoverian E-bloodline with his prepotency, and he was of tremendous importance for the modern jumper horse breed. “He sires excellently fighting progeny with lots of show jumping scope,“ the manager of the Celle National State Stud, Dr. Axel Brockmann, says.

Fuerst Gotthard “The Titleist” 1983 – 2009

September 25, 2009

We sadly announce the passing of Fuerst Gotthard-First Gotthard/Inschallah x/More magic xx, our popular 26 year old Homozygous gray Oldenburg stallion, who was laid to rest after a short battle with age-related issues. Fuerst Gotthard was with us the past 14 years and was imported from Gestut Vorwerk before being licensed in the US. He stood his first few breeding years at Glenwood Farms. 3 year old Fuerst Gotthard was reserve champion of the first American 100 day test in Culpepper with 132.24 points, 8 for riding and 9 for jumping, versatility which we saw him pass on to his offspring. Fuerst Gotthard, shown under the name "The Titleist", won multiple Grand Prixs, World Cup classes and placed in many more classics with Olympic riders Robert Ridland, Hap Hansen and Eddie Macken.

Some of his winnings included:
'91 Jimmy Williams Futures, '92 Spruce Meadows Grand Prix, '92 LA National World Cup, '92 Flintridge World Cup, '92 LA World Cup, '92 Del Mar World Cup Finals, '93 Winner Desert Circuit World Cup Classes.

Fuerst Gotthard was selected for the Hanoverian jumper breeding program and produced several offspring now in the program. He was one of just a handful Oldenburg NA 5 star stallions.

Fuerst Gotthard produced an incredible and rare array of high quality offspring registered amongst 12 breed organizations bringing home top awards for most of them; jumpers, dressage horses, eventers, breedshow winners, grand prix winners, AHS jumper breeding selections, premium foals, licensed son’s including the 2006 high score stallion for Oldenburg NA, 2002 high scoring Hanoverian mare, premium mares and elite mares who in some cases scored as high as 9’s for both jumping and ridability. We are blessed to have his great sons and daughters.

Fuerst Gotthard lived a full productive life, gave us super offspring and memories, got to enjoy a few years of retirement and grazed till his last minutes. Rest in peace Fuerst Gotthard, we will miss you.

Landkoenig son Lantinus wins Rolex CHIO Aachen 2009

"The victory at the World Equestrian Festival, CHIO Aachen 2009, went to the Irish rider, Denis Lynch, with the Hanoverian Landkönig son, Lantinus. The pair crossed the finish line clear in 55.26 seconds. 'Lantinus is a top class horse. After the oxer we had to take the longer route around the water jump, because we were so fast that I didn't manage the tight turn,' commented an elated Lynch."

March 20 — Congratulations to Susie and Ed Skellenger with their new stallion, Grandom. Grandom is now standing at Spring Meadows Hanoverians. For more information about Grandom contact Susie Skellenger, (916) 203-4972 Email: susiewoog@aol.com or visit www.springmeadowshanoverians.com

Rubignon Arrives!

March 2 — Rubignon made the trip over very well. You can see he is sharing his carrot with Susan during a break somewhere between LA and the quarantine station; UCDavis. After arriving and the taking of his vitals he rolled on both sides and started eating right away. He should be at UCDavis til the 27th of March and available for breeding right after.

Rubignon Hanoverian approved in Verden, Germany

February 16 — Many thanks go out to Colette and Harald who braved the blizzards and drove through Sweden to Verden, Germany with Rubignon in tow to present him for his Hanoverian approval. On top of that they had to leave their new stallion “Baltimore” at the Swedish licensing. Luckily the news came back that he had been approved with some of the highest scores given in 10 years. Congratulations!!

Rubignon got the whole works, first x-ray’s then vet exam, he was a good boy to stand for it without tranquilizer as he had to be presented after that. The films came back completely clean the physical exam perfect. Harald presented Rubignon in hand and Colette did a Grand Prix performance that left the commission wondering why Rubignon is going to a U.S. stallion station instead of a top performance stable. Congratulations Colette and Harald on your last super performance with Rubignon! I know it is bittersweet but thank you for entrusting us with him, we will not disappoint.

Rainbow Equus Meadows is pleased to offer the best in dressage performance genetics for your breeding program with a proven performer and producer of premium foals, Champion mares and licensed sons - Rubignon

Restricted Importation of Semen in Canada

January 26 — Canada has restricted importation of semen do to known CEM cases in the US. Importation permits need to be issued for shipments to Canada. Our farm and stallions are CEM free and we are getting certification to that effect so we can get permits to ship to our many Canadian clients. This is a new requirement so we are still learning but fully intend to make it work. There will likely be Canadian inspection cost in addition to the normal collection and shipping. We expect to know the details and have tested it by the end of February.
